When the smart girl starts falling in love, her first instinct is to question her emotions. The smart girl is adept at visualizing the outcome of her relationships — so adept, in fact, that she writes most of them off before they have the chance to begin. She will trust you in increments — making sure that you are genuine in your small-scale intentions before she trusts you with the big ones. Or the second. Or the tenth. She needs consistency, reliability and honesty, over a long period of time. When the smart girls decides to give her heart over to you, she does so with a keen intuition about how she plans to make the relationship work. I love it when she can write a sonnet, use Euler’s formula, code Perl, play a concerto, speak half a dozen languages, run a company, quote Chaucer, diagnose diabetes, compose a quartet and converse brilliantly. Especially in a big city like Los Angeles or New York, looks alone do not suffice. I need, nay, require the intellectual engagement, and legions of smart, educated men feel similarly. So it pains me to no end to see my smart, educated, lovely female friends remain single, alone and lonely in spite of their best efforts.
These are amazing women! Surely there is something wrong with the world if they remain single for so long. What compels me to write this article today is a recent trip to the Harvard-Yale Game festivities, reminding me of how smart, educated women routinely sabotage their own chances for romantic fulfillment. Every guy she goes out with is an asshole; she consistently dates “below” her league, and she’s on the verge of giving up on a committed relationship altogether. Not long after he turned 30, the writer Jon Birger realized he and his wife knew a lot of women like that. The couple didn’t have a lot of single male friends left, but the many single women they knew all seemed to be buyers stuck in a seller’s market.

Smart women can’t find men to impregnate them, the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology conference in Geneva has been told. These days I’m more concerned about avoiding pregnancy than freezing my eggs. I can, however, relate to the difficulties faced by smart women in the dating scene. Anecdotal evidence suggests men often “date down”, choosing partners less intelligent than themselves. Bright, accomplished women often complain that men are “intimidated” by them, and that they need to play down their accomplishments to get a date.
When it comes to heterosexual dating, smart women could take a leaf out of our male counterparts’ books, writes Kerri Sackville. And, a couple of years ago, researchers confirmed this. While men claimed to be attracted to very smart women, in actuality they shied away from those who seemed more intelligent than them. Except this unwillingness of men to date smart women really tells only half the story. There’s another issue, which no one seems to talk about, and that is the single-minded insistence on the part of smart women to marry smart men.

My friend’s boyfriend is charming, a gentleman, and great in bed. She’s a hard-news reporter and Web producer who craves intellectual stimulus outside of her job. When a guy can’t keep up with her as she discusses the news, debates the merits of legal reforms, and cracks sarcastic, witty jokes, she notices that she immediately gets turned off.
She’s not the first and hardly the only woman to express a similar sentiment: Some women need a challenge , a man who encourages her to be her fastest, smartest self. When you have stimulating conversation with someone who really makes you think and who can open your eyes to new things and experiences, you never get bored.
Or perhaps you simply need someone who can keep up; it’s nice to have someone who gets your jokes and is able to discuss deep, serious things when they come up over the course of a relationship. If you have no meeting of the minds, it can be tough navigating life’s little curveballs together, unless there is one mutually agreed-upon dominant partner who makes the decisions, eliminating the need for debate over every major event. Other women, however, crave the opposite in a partner. After dating a know-it-all-type, another year-old woman needed a reprieve from conversations that were always mind-numbingly specific and intense—and left her feeling exhausted.
After an experience like that, perhaps a silly partner who lets you be yourself and would rather discuss what movie you’d like to see than compare and contrast the Roman empire and feudal Japan feels more your speed.

Every woman has had a friend who dated a guy who was clearly bad news, but she just couldn’t resist. Maybe, that “friend” was you. And yet, despite all the warnings and red flags, the pull of dating a “bad boy” was just too strong. So, even with all of the signs that heartbreak is on the horizon, why do we still find bad boys so appealing? Why Being Attracted to Smarter Men Is the Biggest Reason You’re Single
I got an email from an Introverted Alpha reader the other day asking me exactly that. It is refreshing to have advice written more specific to my personality. I started trying to actively date this past year and your advice does help…. One question that I have is if you could write a blog post about dating intelligent women? None of the pages I find give me any real clues to dating intelligent girls.
She’s not the first and hardly the only woman to express a similar sentiment: Some women need a challenge, a man who encourages her to be.

She comes to the table as an adult, and communicates clearly what is bothering her. A girl perceives herself as a princess and believes people should treat her like so. She is entitled and feels that she is owed and therefore expects more than she appreciates.
A woman, has standards what she holds herself to not expectations what she projects on to others. A girl uses her physical beauty as her currency and basis of value.
